The value of earning a Teaching credential these days?

I am debating whether or not I should get one (I know I posted this question earlier but decided to repost with additional info). I am a California resident. Is it worth getting it from a financial perspective? Also, what is the job outlook like? I am considering specializing in Mathematics, English, or History? (still undecided as you can see!....LOL).
I already spent about 3 years all together teaching English and basic Mathematics in Asia where have a credential was not a requirement necessarily. I earned an ESL certificate for this and possess a BA. Now considering in getting the real deal. I appreciate your comments.
I am mostly interested in teaching here in CA but will probably go abroad again to teach at some point.

If you really want to make yourself competitive and able to get a job just about anywhere in california then you will want to get credentialed in math and science. There is a HUGE demand for science and math teachers. Most districts will offer them bonuses.

I think its definitely worth it if its something you really want to do. As far as from a financial perspective you can get grants and loan repayment from the state. They are offering teachers who work for low performing schools and rural areas this offer.

It seems like you are very interested in teaching! Go for it! I dont think other people's opinions will really help you. Just get out there and do it.
Teaching is a calling, like the clergy. No one does it for the money. You have experience so you already know if you have the calling. Overseas teaching is a double bonus: you get to shape lives and see the world. You already know the answer. Go somewhere quiet and listen to yourself.
Do it! I hear teachers make mad cheddar.
In California it was great when Gray Davis was in charge. He lowered class sizes. That is why the government is all in financial ruins now. But, I have an aunt in California that was "laid off" after 20 years of teaching. Many of the schools are going on that direction. Have you taken the Praxis test yet? It is a tough one too. Could you get a credential in another state? I would recommend that.
I am a teacher in Washington state and was credentialed in California and North Carolina.
If you expect to excel in your profession and get a teaching job, certification is without question the way to go. The competition out there if fierce as it is and the more 'tools' you have, the easier it will be for you to get ahead. The fact that you are questioning the process suggests that you are not where you wish to be. Examine your desires and needs - not wants- and go from there. One good motivator is to look at your self from a prospective employer's point of view. Would you hire you? If not, what would it take to make you more marketable? Get the picture? I'm, sorry, but there are no guarantees.
