Are White Americans Ashamed of their Heritage?

Due to my hobby as a civil war reenactor and my job as a park ranger I get thousands of questions I cannot answer. Today I worked at Williamsburg, Va and braving the cold I was bombard with questions that once again that I could not answer

People from all over the world including the Middle East, Asia and Europe and other areas come to see our Civil War, and its soldiers. I am told that we are one of the few countries that try to protect the sites where our soldiers have fought for our beliefs, honor and the country. That when they go home they are going to try to have their respective country do the same.

Like the 25 + Germans today at Williamsburg, they ask why do we do this while at the same time being ashamed of it? (They are speaking of the political correct police). The Williamsburg guide was upset as many times before they wanted to see the Battle of Williamsburg (there is nothing) then they want to know why, then when they see the same thing at Yorktown they then go to Pamplin Historical Park and ask why there are no Confederate Flags. Since there French, British flags flying nothing you tell them works.

Lat month we had 75 Middle East students who rubbed in my face (I was working Saylors Creek that week) that they knew the Commanders of Saladin Armies Ayyubi and Shirkuh were the only two I wrote down out of the 6 or 7 they mentioned from 912 years ago. They went on to explain that the USA might learn to understand the values of the Middle East and other parts of the world if we learned to appreciate our heritage and quit being ashamed. When I get close to retirement or win the lottery I am going to explain how my number 12 boots fit up their @3*.

However all this started me thinking so I ran it by my peers, my superiors and finally some of the biggest religious and philosophical minds in the country and regardless of their race or religion they agreed we should not be ashamed of the Civil War and we should learn more about it. What do you think?

Americans are driven by guilt and political correctness. If they (Americans) learned that they were taught a lie that Lincoln was a racist, puppet of big business (before I say that I know it is true and that there is proof) who knew what he was doing when he incited a war that killed 600,000 Americans. Even though everyone believes such a revelation inconsequential; that shows you how wrong that belief would be. They would not know what to say, do or believe. Blacks would have to be reprogrammed and a new source of blame found one that the establishment might not like. I always wondered which one of these young soldiers if they lived might have been the father of the person responsible for world peace, curing cancer or going to Mars. In fact I believe a revelation like this would be equivalent to UFO's being found to be true. I know you do not see that but please think about it. Lincoln started the war, the North committed war crime after war crime, they destroyed the South replacing its culture, language, heritage with what they want seen and used. Blacks believe the South was and is their enemy instead of the real foe. Visiting tourist can see it but what are a few voices in the face of the big lie? Thank you for your thoughts and question! I'm not ashamed of my heritage. I'm american, irish, scottish, bohemian, and dutch, along with native american. I think I have a wonderful heritage. Now, my country's HISTORY i might not be too terribly proud of at times, but then again every country in the world has had its bad spots now and again.
