What does foreigner pharmacist have to do to get a job in the US? |
I'm a pharmaceutical science student studying in Asia. I'd like to work as pharmacist in the US after I graduated. What do I have to do to be able to work there? Also, I'm thinking about studying Master degree in the US. How much will it cost me? and is there any opportunities for me to get help for tuition from any organisations? You have to get a pharmacy license from the state you want to work in. That means you'll pretty much have to attend a US school first, and hope that they'll transfer many of your credits, and let you test out of others. You'll also need to get a green card to work (unless you find an employer willing to sponsor you). Master's degree: depends on what in and in what school. I would talk to the school(s) that you are intrested in about assistance. Some of them may allow you to be a teacher's aide or research assistant and get some money + steeply reduced tuition (but you have to ask). There may also be scholarships or fellowships that you are elgible to apply for. The clinical degree to become a pharmacist is the PharmD. You as an international student will have to pay a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if the cost is over $50,000 per year. It'll be very hard for you to be accepted as a foreign student. Many pharmacy colleges do not accept internationals. You will not get any federal/state financial aid. Since you're not considered a graduate student, you cannot get a GA/TA-ship. Pretty much, you're on your own. pharmacy student |
