Who should I contact in Arizona regarding a complaint about unfair hiring practices? |
My current employer, (who claims to promote from within, on thier website career center) has passed me up for a promotion to another department. The candidate who the job has been offerred to, has no prior experience, and would need to be trained on all software and operations. When I was called in to the person hiring the position, I was promptly told the "job had already been filled". No interview, no discussion about my qualifications. I feel that I am perfectly qualified for the position, and have the knowledge of the operations, and all the procedures; I could hit the ground running, and bypass all of the training, and new orientation. I feel I was not given a fair shake at this position. Not even a fair chance.... Who should I contact to file a grievance? I have contacted my Human Resources Dept, and all they did is informed my General Manager of the situation. One thing you can do, is check the website of the state you live in. They should have their state Labor & Industries board and usually you can find info on it online and then make a claim for unfair business practices. Also, you can contact your State Attorney General office and the Better Business Bureau for your area. But my first suggestion would be your state Labor & Industries dept to make claims on employers who are conducting business in an unfair way due to hiring/promotions, etc. Good luck. lign="right" > Sign in to vote! Why is this unfair? You may disagree with the decision and it may seem stupid but you don't know the strategy that went along with the decision. Was education an issue? They don't want someone who knows all the operations and procedures; they want someone who can run the dept. and that has more to do with management experience and the ability to lead people. Why is your first reaction to run to the government? Be big enough to handle the situation for yourself. You handled the situation after they made their decision HORRIBLY. You don't say if you asked for feedback or if you asked your manager how you might be considered for future positions. Instead, you ran to HR to tattle. They told you what they think of you. It's time for you to update your resume and start looking for a job. You should also ask your peers, your manager and other management that you don't report to for a FRANK, BLUNT analysis of your strength, weaknesses and prospects. lign="right" > Sign in to vote! lass="explain-text">Sometimes none of the answers get it just right. If so, pick "No Best Answer". Voters DO NOT get any points for voting on the No Best Answer. lign="right" > Sign in to vote! |
