MS in Psychology or M. ED in AET?

I am interested in getting in the Student Services/School Guidance Counselor profession. I am two semesters away from earning a BS in Human Development and Family Studies and am beginning to explore my graduate degree options. I am not sure which degree would be more fitting for the direction I want to go. I prefer to work at the High school or Community College level as a guidance counselor or at lower levels as a principal or counselor. The Psychology program may be more versatile in the long run, however the M. Ed is in Education and Human Resources (Adult Education and Training) and the classes would be beneficial when it comes to student services. Which program would be the better choice? The MS in Psych. is from Cal Coast University (accredited online school) and the M. ED AET is from Colo State University Online, which I am currently attending. HELP???

In Michigan, neither of those would allow you to be a guidance councilor in a school. You either have to have a masters in guidance counseling and get a guidance councilor license or have a teaching certification with a counseling endorsement.

The MS Psych would probably qualify you to be a school psychologist.

I would say the MS Psych would be more versatile (more useful outside of a school setting).

I would say first decide if you really want to work in a school setting or not. If no, go with the MS in Psych.

If you do want to be in a school setting, check the department of education of the state you plan to work in and check out the requirements for a school guidance councilor or school psychologist. If you want to be a councilor, neither degree may work. It depends on the state.
