What is a good way to decrease negitivity in the work place?

It seems that most of my coworkers dislike me. I am not sure why, but I feel as though it may be because of my age. I am only 22 and I work at a good, international human resources department.

I don't have relatives here; I was hired based on my resume NOT because of someone I know.

Also, I was one of 80 temps that were brought in for training and was one of 3 that actually got hired.

I think I am the youngest one here, could that be the cause?

If not, what would you think the cause is and how should I go about fixing it? I know i am not here to make friends, but it would help if I wasn't hated.

oh yes, i am friends with one of the other girls that came on with me... i don't know the 3rd one because she is on a differant team.

there was alot of negitivity while i was in training, and my husband told me to just ignore them and focus on my work --- look where it got me. now i am hired on and i have a great job, i just don't like being looked down on. its not even that i want to fit in, i just don't want to be looked down on.

I have many co-worker and Bosses that dislike me but it really dosn't matter...I just go in and do my work...above all be reliable when they need someone and you will be o.k. I just don't let it bother me...I know I am a good person and I work my A** off and what everyone thinks doesn't matter..eventually you and I will rise above them and they will have to re-evaluate their opinions..do your best and thats all...

On a spiritual note: "Seek you first his kingdom and all his righteouness and all these things will be added unto you." If we are following God's path and not our own..we will be o.k. always!

Smile and bring in food.

Most have been in the same situation.
Whether it's work ,school, .....Your the new person, your a threat, you don't know anything (etc).

Respect is earned not given.

Work hard, be fair, treat people well (just like everyday life).
Time seems to take care of everything.
Remember how you feel now and help the new people adjust when they are hired.

Yes, if they have been there awhile, and you came in as a temp, you will have to earn the right to join the group. It is just a territorial thing, and will pass.
Don't bend over backwards to over-please because that would not be professional. If they are having a pot-luck or some other thing where you can participate, do your best to be one of them. Bring something nice but don't go overboard, and don't bring just paper plates. (This is an example, not a real situation by the way.)
I have had to go through this on each job and it is no fun. But time takes care of it, and they mean no harm. Don't be negative and don't discuss it with anyone, for it will get back to them. Just do your work, smile, and get on with your life. Eventually, someone new will be hired, and you will be in the "in group" and they will be on the outside. You will have empathy for what they are going through, won't you?
As to fixing it, you can't. It is just group behavior (just as monkeys and other animals do.) It passes.
How nice that you were one of 3. How are the others doing? Don't the three of you become a groupie, because you want to fit in with the whole group, not segregate your own newbies together. Have fun, and next year at this time, you'll forget this happened. Well, not really. I still remember my times, and some of it hurt, and yet I survived. Our human instincts are to belong and to be accepted, your feelings are very normal. Pull up on a search engine "Maslow's Hierarchy" and you will see how we need certain things before we can function at a higher level. Quite interesting, and it will validate that you are normal.
Congratulations! Enjoy 2008.

It starts at the top. It is called LEAD BY EXAMPLE...even if the people above you are idiots, or you feel they are....it does not mean you have to act like them! Some managers "micro-manage......" NOt everyone has the ability to KEEP things SIMPLE!
