Letter of request to landlord to have a pet?

I am starting a new job where I will live onsite. One of the rules is "no pets". However, underneath the rules, it said to submit any requests to Human Resources. I am thinking there is a chance I might be able to keep her (my dog) if I pay a higher deposit. It's worth a try! I will submit a letter or request. My dog is 13, almost blind, no behavioral problems, house trained, and I won't have her very long. Please give an example of this type of letter or the things I should include to say in this letter. Thanks in advance!

When I was renting, I wrote a letter, submitted a letter of recommendation from a previous landlord, included a photo and paid a non-refundable pet deposit. The landlord requested to meet my dogs, and it went well. I was approved.

Keep the letter short. State the facts as you did here and request written permission to have the dog.

Good luck!

basically what you just said - my mother had the same issue - she said her dog slept with her every night when she was going through chemo . . . (she had cancer - the dog slept on the floor)

Sure, it's worth a shot. If they say no, then you'll have your answer.

I would not sneak the dog into the property. You'll live in fear of being caught and it will not feel much like home.

As a landlord that had a tenant ruin my property with 10 cats I see why landlords are tough on pets. I would still rent to those with pets, but they need a large security deposit, enough to replace the carpets, and get rid of the smell. I would insist on only 1 pet as well.

I allow pets, so I am not a good judge. I would include a picture of you and your dog, I know it is cheesy, but, hey, heartstrings are powerful things.

Also, a letter from your former landlord regarding "no damages" would be very helpful.

In my apartments we ask an extra$400 on top of the deposit for a single pet. Most people think its rediculous, but why have a pet if you are not willing to pay for them?
Offer the landlord an additional amount, see if they go for it. You could also contact a cleaning company, find out how much they will charge to clean an apartments drapes and carpets for odor, after you leave, and ask for deposit to be that much, get a price quote in writing.

As a landlord who frequently faces these requests, I can say most are more apt to accept smaller pets like indoor cats and such.

The dog issue always comes down to a foul oders, barking, soiled carpets, and tenants who don't pick up after them (outside.)

I would still highly recommend you send the letter, with a picture of the dog (especially if she's small) and you just might get lucky.

I will also mention, if nobody is allowed a dog in the building, it is unlikely they will let you - for the simple reason it opens the door for all other tenants to get dogs.
