Pregnant and just started a new job, BIG PROBLEM need advice?

I just started my new job Friday (last) and I found out I was pregnant the day after they officially hire me. My position is to support a certain program they are trying to implement throughout the company and its not a simple rollout. They want me trained and may send me to the states. (I am in Canada btw) I am worried that I will either get fired or literally obsolete. I dont think they can have me trained and have this program completely supported in 8.5 months! I dont know what to do! If I tell them now they could fire me and say it was something else to cover their asses. i can wait til I am there for 3 months (probationary period) but if I get morning sickness bad then its a no brainer that I am preggers. There is no human resources dept and the person I would have to tell I am pregnant is a guy so Im not overly comfortable with that either. This is a dream job and it pays really well and I will also have the hours saved for maternity. PLEASE HELP!!

The baby is a blessing, but the timing is a problem. As many answers in life it is not easy. Save as much money as you can, save as much time as you can. Hopefully it will be an easy pregancy. I worked through both of mine and it can be done. I would simply hold off telling them as long as possible and make yourself indepensable while you are there. Atleast get some good experience! If they complain about you waiting then simply tell them that you didn't want to tell anyone until the pregnacy was past a point of miscarriage-- it might work!

No real advice, just best wishes!

Personally I would wait the three month period and then tell. Think of your and your baby's future and if this is a great job then that is what I would do.
You have every right to be in that position and just because your pregnant doesn't mean you don't deserve the chance any less than if you were not!
Congrats on the baby and the dream job!

This doesn't sound like much of a problem, for now anyway. I would wait a while to tell them, because they might think that you already knew and were trying to hide it. As soon as you get to the 2nd trimester or as soon as you begin to show, let them know. Actually, I think that men are a little more sensitive than women when it comes to this, or at least most of the men that I have encountered. My old boss is a male and was wonderful for 33 weeks of my pregnancy. My new boss is a male and is very excited for me. Who knows, they may have something else that you could do rather than travel the world right after you have the baby. I think that 6 months in advance is a good time to let them know what is going on, it gives them time to hire someone if you don't want that position anymore, or be prepared for your leave.
As far as morning sickness goes, you don't have to say much or anything about it, just run to the bathroom. Oftentimes, people aren't going to ask you why you keep running to the bathroom. If it gets bad, there are medications that your OB/GYN can give you that will ease it a bit.
Good luck! But most of all, Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Wait for three months. You should not tell anyone you are pregnant in the first month, just in case something goes wrong, although nothing probably will go wrong. They do not know you, some people are normally sick more often than others...and some people never get sick their whole pregnancy, so do not worry about that.

In the mean time, do the best job that you can do and work very hard. Once you have proven yourself, they shouldn't want to fire you. In the mean time, be sure that everything you do would be able to be taken over by another worker, document everything.

really, you could get away with waiting until you are really showing, depending on your build, that could take up until six months. Again, those people do not know you, and likely will think nothing of you putting on some weight. Maybe do not say anything until someone asks you. Really, you probably only have to give two week notice, unless otherwise stated in your contract. So you could wait until then to even talk about it, technically.

Well this is a tough one. If you tell them they can only do one of two things, but you say this is your dream job and that you really need, so you have to decide what is more important to you! (not that i am for abortion but it is a option) or you can tell them before it is too late for you that might make them more mad and they might feel played. which will make it worse, if they fire you then that job was not ment to be for you!!!!!!!!!! But you can look at it this way if you go with that other option, when the oppertunity come again to have another child then you will be stable and better able to care for a nother life other than your own. think about it!!!! good luck

First off, CONGRATULATIONS!
I have gone through this with my 2nd pregnancy. You need to tell them, when you're ready. If they don't understand that people have unexpected life changes, then this isn't the job for you. No matter how great the pay/benefits may be. Legally they can't fire you, if they did they could get sued. My opinion is to watch the reactions for a while after you make the announcement. If things don't look good, get out of there! It's better for you to quit when you have another job lined up than for them to fire you unexpectedly when you're trying to prepare for a baby.
Good luck to you through parenthood and your career!

First, talk to a lawyer to find out what your legal rights are. Even if you don't intend to go to court over anything, it's still a good idea to know what your rights are.

Then, bust your bottom doing the best job you can for the next three months. If morning sickness looms at work, excuse yourself, deal with it and then go back to your desk and continue doing your job. If someone asks questions assure them you're fine without going into details and immediately change the subject.

Once you're through they've acknowledged that you're through the probation period and they're happy with your job performance you can tell them about the bun in the oven and explain that you are confident that your pregnancy and child's birth will not prevent the project's successful completion.
