Can dogs sense fear in humans?

Or is this an illusion?

My inclination is to think they can, but I am far from sure.

could be just very clever writing and not the truth. Dogs may just be habituated to barking responses as part of their enforced training?

dogs bark because that's their way of speaking. Now, if they can sense what you and i are feeling, i don't think so. What i do think is that dogs are challenged by our stance and stare. and if the aggressive ones take the challenge, they bark, or bite. and the chicken ones just look away and whimper, and harbor some ill feeling towards the challenger, and might, later on, just get revenge... so, my word of advice, try not to look the dog straight into the eyes, observe keenly and outwit the smart man's bestfriend!

Of course. why do u think they always bark at people? they know what you are feeling.

I think so from my personal experiences.

I think they can .I have my first dog now for a little less than a year and I have learned so much about them.

Yes

A theory I am aware of is that dogs do not "sense" fear; however, when a biological organism becomes afraid, their body chemistry changes from the increased heart rate, increased breathing, and the release of adrenallin and other endorphins into the bloodstream. Dogs seem to smell this change in body chemistry in the scent. So, no, they don't "sense" fear. They "smell" fear.

yes, they always do

Humans do not give the animals due credit for anything. Animals have a keen instinct for fear, food, and danger...something that we people cannot grasp. Yes dogs can sense fear, read body language and hear panic...so can horses, cats, birds, the list goes on...We humans are not near as smart as we think we are.

Dogs most definitely sense fear in people. This can cause a dog to become upset and appear aggressive at times, especially if they are a bit nervous themselves, or have been abused. If someone is REALLY nervous of any particular dog, it would be best if they stayed well back until they felt more confident. Happy New Year.

YES IM POSITIVE IT CAN

Dogs can sense fear. animals can sense fear too. They know when im scared, upset, frightened, happy, everything. Cats know too.
