Human resource management? |
You have been asked to come in and give advice to the Managing Director of a small software company in Fife. He started this business with a group of friends and enthusiasts who are still with him 5 years on. Each of the four Directors (the MD is one of this group) has adapted to the role that suits him (yes, they are all male) best 鈥?from Research & Development to Marketing and Sales and the HRM manager. The firm has operated very informally and people wander around in shorts and tee shirts most of the time. There are no fixed hours and people operate from home if they want to Your friend thinks that there is a lack of progression for most of the staff. They are good at what they do, but they are not moving on. Explain to him what the options for training and development could offer to his staff, how he could set up a programme for his key staff and how that might reinforce a culture of training and development for the whole company. any advice? and what does MD mean? clueless! Mechanical Doctorate?? Don't know either... lol Any way I think that in the technology field keeping up with the advancement is key essential for any business within the field... Older equipment they already have the knowledge... It gives the company more of a competitive edge with other out there... I think that explaining the positive and competitiveness within your field would put some fire under these guys... Training and developing are something that takes flight within ones business.... Some people absolutely hate any type of change.. my mom worked for a group of guys who were similar she went into work dressed professionally and by the time she left they too changed to pants, shirt and tie... MD = Managing Director, duh!. Software company = creative people, not too keen on rules. Imposing rules will probably discourage the staff. However, firm needs some form of discipline. Changes can be introduced gradually to incorporate proper dress code, regular working hours and closer teamwork. Introduce performance-linked incentives by giving out clear targets of what to achieve, and the targets must be agreed upon by all parties. Negotiation training is required. Top management must sit down and clearly map out what is to be achieved by the company. provide goals and objectives, and reward the high performers. Top management must have willpower to enforce the changes. Training needed: Self empowerment, teamwork, professional grooming, brainstorming workshop between employees and the management, marketing and advertising. I'm sure you can figure out the rest. Good luck. maybe you'll find useful this: http://www.essay-paper.net/22-human_reso... http://www.essay-paper.net/ MD = Managing director Are you doing gcse business studies by any chance?
