How do I get a job working in Human Resources? |
I am currently working as an Accounting Assistant and am interested in a career change. I would like to work in Human Resources but I wanted to know what the qualifications were for an entry level Human Resources position. Also, does anybody know of any training classes (certificate only) that I could take to gain the basic knowledge needed to work in Human Resources? I have been in HR for 5 years now and love it. I started as an HR Assistant then I worked for a recruiting agency as a recruiter. Then I became an HR coordinator. I am currently an HR consultant. My suggestion, transition to become an assistant in the HR department- possibly become and HR clerk. HR Clerks are not really required to have an degree, just a High school diploma. In HR you need to start from the bottom because there is a lot to learn. I am an HR consultant and I am constantly learning the new employee laws. If you want to have a certification I would suggest going to www.SHRM.com and look into the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) Certification. You must be working 2 years in an exempt status or finish a degree and register as a student. OR Go to The Human Resource Certification Institute http://www.hrci.org/. When you wish to register for this certification you go through this institute. If you go to this link, there are sample tests that you can take as well as an information booklet they will send you upon request. Good Luck!
