Is medical coding/billing a viable work from home career?

I am a stay at home mom with over 5 years of Human Resource experience under my belt, however I would like to be able to continue to stay at home with my special needs son in addition to earning an income. I have seen commercials for schools that offer medical billing/coding training and the fact that you can work from home. Does anyone have any experience and/or advice with this? I am thinking of going back to school, but if it's going to be hard to find a good job that will allow me to work from home, I don't want to invest time or resources in it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

yes, it can be done, but their are a lot of scams out their. 99% of doctors and hospitals are verry particular, due to HIPPA requirments.
