I need your opinion.?

I am the only woman in a office of 27 people. I really like the people I work with and they like me. My 10 year anniversary is coming up soon and my fellow employees are planning a small lunch to celebrate it. They plan for each employee to give a small speech about working with me and to present a small gift and to give me a kiss. Former employees I worked with are also invited. The human resources guy is worried that people will think what they plan to do is sexist because they employees would not do that for a man. I think it is a great idea. Do you think it is a sexist idea? Your thoughts please.

I think it is great that they want to throw you a celebration. 10 years is something to celebrate! The gift part seems good - usually at my job people gather money up to buy one present. The only thing that seems alittle odd is the kiss part - I think it is a nice gesture just weird that it is planned. I would personally feel uncomfortable if everyone was "obligated" to give me a kiss. And quite honestly I wouldn't really want every ones kiss (or germs) anyway. So I think go for the celebration - just without all the kissing.

I would definitely think the idea was conjured up because you are the only woman in the office. Does it really matter? Since the 26 men in your office want to do it they obviously aren't bothered whether it is sexist or even sevenist. Enjoy it.
