Any job suggestions with a degree in recreation and tourism?

I'm majoring in recreation and tourism. Not really like organizing vacations for people. but more like management for the park service. The college's description also includes the possibility of running fitness centers or planning activies for parks. I already have worked three years for the park service on the maintenance crew so I have experience with this organization. The problem is I've just worked as a laborer. While this is a great job for a college student, I'll need a better paying career. And I also want to put my degree to work. Alot of people working for maintenance don't have degrees. I'm not limiting working to only the park service. I've been looking at government jobs through usajobs.opm.gov. I've still got two years of college to go. I like the park service work, but I also wouldn't mind the human resources field with other government agencies. I'm hoping this is a broad major I will have and that I could be considered for many different jobs. Any suggestions?

According to http://www.articlestreet.com/career/oppo...
"Tourism and commercial recreation is over an $800 billion industry in the United States. Globally, tourism accounts for approximately 12% of the Gross Domestic Product, employing 10% of the worldwide labor force. It is estimated that by the year 2020, more than half of all employed people in the world will be involved directly or indirectly with the tourism industry. In the United States, travel-related tourism is the first, second or third largest employer in 32 states".
You can have a career as Resort manager, special event coordinator, meeting/conference planner, tour operations management, on-site meeting manager, travel agent trainee, cruise hospitality, hotel management trainee, resort recreation management, tour coordinator, natural or cultural tour guide, and park manager.

sounds like getting a degree in art its pretty useless. Go for something in computers or in pharmaceuticals. They are the growing fields right now.

Hi I am in tourism and I can suggest try and start as a studend at on of the parks and see were that takes you it worked for me.
I have my own business now and doing well in the feild.

I am also getting a degree in Recreation adventure and tourism which will enable me to work for the forest service. A lot of jobs only want to see that you have a 4-year degree and don't care what you have a degree in.
