Is it normal to postpone job interview test due to lack of confidence?

I really really am pissed off due to my recent failures in software job interviews/ written tests and haven't gotten back my confidence yet. This being the case I got a call from a company's HR to attend their written test for a job that I applied and the test is 2 days hence. I agreed to write the test and although I'm well prepared, I never feel like prepared enough. This is my dream company since long time and I really really want to pass the test. Their recruitment policy does allow you to reschedule the tests/interviews. So I thought the better of it, and emailed the HR citing some personal reason and that I would write the test 1 week later. Being the weekend I could not call him on phone.
Is my behaviour normal? I only feel bad cos I feel I should have told him right when he called that I would like it a bit later.

This is seldom done, because they do not normally call back for your new schedule. In so doing, you have actually shown that you are not interested, you are right to feel concerned. They schedule exams for all applicants in different positions all at the same time. Sometimes, they do not have time to give a special exam. Also, if other applicants passed their battery exam, they will process those first and if no one was selected, this is the time that they will schedule a new exam for a new batch of applicants.

My advise, you can show up during the exam date, and talk to their HR personally. You can tell them that you were able to settle whatever alibi you have told them and that you are ready to take the exam.

Good luck to you

Alecs

No, it is not normal and likely will cost you the job.

its hard to be rejected yes

Yes definitely it is better to told him straight

The longer you go without interviewing, the worse your confidence will be. If you put off the interview, you will not get better, you'll get worse. Use the other interviews as practise and go in to the next one ready to go. See yourself in that job and prove to them why they need you. Hope this helps. Matt

So you should be you may have blown a great chance
Never ever not go for a interview.
Yeah i know it feel like you get put into the trash a lot but never give up

Yes usually your first impulse is the best. When trying for a job I always wanted to be on time and please your employer as much as possible, after all he is paying you for services!!!

you either don't want this job, or you have **** for self confidence.. either way.. you need to man up, and do what you have to do.. you get in a habit of putting chit off.. it becomes a very bad habit.. the market is tough right now.. and if you want this job, and you know you're prepared.. just go conquer it.. sounds like it's just the test.. then you'll have time to prepare yourself for the interview.. mind over matter darlin... get it in your head that you're gonna ace this.. and they need you.. and you're gonna do a good job, etc etc.. it really is in your head.. just do it
o hey.. gl xo
for the record.. i used to be friggin chronic at rescheduling.. don't get into the habit.. only works for so long...

Opportunity knock only once so you have to grab it and make yourself ready. Don't let your negative attitude drives you away from your dream job. If you failed last time it does not mean that you always fail. Use this experienced to gain more confidence.

You should go with your gut. If this is indeed your dream job and you feel you would benefit for a little more time to prepare, I think you did the right thing.

I wouldn't recommend making it a habit, though. He who hesitates is lost.

Call them back! Tell them you are able to do the test according to the original schedule, that this is more important and you were able to set aside the personal issue. You can still save this. Good luck.
