My new job says the way they pay is an hourly wage or commission...what does this mean? |
It's a retail bridal store (not David's bridal) and it pays $9/hr or commission which is 8%. I was also told in order to make commission I must sell $130 per hr...so does this mean $9 is my flat rate and if I sell enough I start to make commission if it makes me more money? I've worked in retail before but never bridal and not with wages like this. It sounds to me like they are offering one or the other. Usually, you start at the hourly and as you are trained are given the opportunity (or not) to move to commission. I have seen some companies offer both at the same time, as you are describing. Make your base rate for hours worked, and commission @ 8% on sales over the $130. You should sit back down with the employer and ask these questions, ask if you will have an opportunity to switch to commission in the future if you take hourly now etc. |
