Hotel Night Auditor: What is your job function? |
Is it solely to perform an audit function or does it also entail working at the Front Desk? What happens if a guest is given a "free room" for the week at the discretion of the Manager? In varies but smaller properties often employ one person who does double duty as night audit and front desk. That is what I do. You will find this often to be the case in limited service hotels that have less than 100 rooms and no other outlets -- no restaurant, lounge, banquets, These properties also have very easy audits that are all automated and run by clicking Run Program. Takes less than 30 mins from start to finish, so the auditor has plenty of time to deal with guests, mop floors, fold laundry, or other miscellaneous tasks. Graveyard shift tends not to be busy with a lot of checkins, because of the late hours. As an only employee, you're also responsible for emergencies such as power outages. In bigger hotels, you may be just doing the audit, in the back room by yourself and an agent will handle the desk. There might even be a MOD (Manager on Duty). Big hotels have more involved auadits, like posting restaurant charges to the guest account, etc. You may generate more reports manually, like with an Excel spreadsheet. The bigger the hotel, the more involved the audit, as a rule. Regarding a free room given by a manager, that is his problem, not yours. Don't even question it. It will come up in the audit as a "Comp Room" and if the owners see the report, believe me, they'll question it unless it was per their instruction in the first place. If the manager has let a friend in for a week without the owner approval, it will be the manager that answers for it, not an auditor or desk clerk. (Anyone asking for a free room will already have a reservation in place with all those notations, and if not, get a manager to the desk immediately, to confirm. Never give out a free room on a guest's say-so).
