What is better, a job at a bank or at a hotel? |
Banks have lousy hours, but good potential for promotion. Hotels have better hours and benefits but I think you get stuck in a rut pretty often. I've got a degree in International Relations and will have an MBA in 2008. I'm in the USA in Virginia, but would like to travel for business eventually. I have to agree with Jen that your descriptions of the jobs are completely backwards, especially in management. I've worked in both of these industries. The hotel business is one where low level managers are on salary because they are expected to work many hours at any time of the day or night. A bank will expect managers to participate in community activities (Rotary, Lions, something like that and to do volunteer work). However, once you get beyond that you're talking about a business with really regular hours and holidays off. Whether either of them could get boring depends on the type of job you have within the organization more than the industry as a whole. If you work for a large organization in either industry you will probably end up being moved around as you move up. i think that banks have great hours, monday through friday, half a day on saturday, with all holidays off. now a hotel is open 365 days a year and you never get a holiday off and i feel that both have the same potential to move up and eventually be "in charge" I would think that they could equally have a ladder to climb. Pick a hotel that is located internationally. http://www.kahmer.com |
