Where to move in Florida?

I'm considering relocating and have include some of my personal details below. Any and ALL suggestions would be great! Some considerations on our list are Tampa, Sarasota, and Ft. Lauderdale areas.

1. Were young newlyweds and 2 cats
2. Want rent under $800 for studio/1bd, maybe buy within the year
3. I want to go to beach everyday, or every other day
4. Need a good job market (any legal, sales, maritime, hotels jobs)
5. Hurricanes are scary, the less worry the better.
6. Nice people are always a plus!!! =)

I lived in Ft. Lauderdale and absolutely hated it... don't get me wrong it's a nice place to visit but living there is totally different they have these bugs there that are called palmetto bugs ~ sounds cute but they are gigantic flying cockroaches that could carry off a small child. I found the people rude and obnoxious and dirty. I wouldn't suggest Sarasota either just because you are young and the median age there I think is like 65 or something. Tampa would be my suggestion the people on the west coast of Florida tend to be a lot more friendlier and a lot less Jewish, I love Jewish people but they certainly aren't the friendliest people on the planet. Tampa also has a younger population and probably more things to do. Every time I hear someone moving to FL I usually give them a year before they return from wence they came. Just be carefull because people in FL are there to rip you off weather it be adding a piece of pie that you didn't order to your bill at Denny's to shopping for clothes or in the grocery stores. check your receipts everytime you buy something and if you buy a home then you'll need a lawyer.
Im moving to st pete/Clearwater in May. Its closer to the beach than tampa and around same price. I got a deal on a studio for 580
Panama City FL
Do you HAVE to move there? I lived there two times and didn't like it. In fact, I'ved lived in 8 states and Florida is my least favorite. The first time, I was just out of college and single, lived in Cocoa, about a half hour drive from Cocoa Beach, where the beaches are pretty nice. I didn't find the people particularly friendly, although most were from Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania and Michigan, and I'm an Ohioan myself. I went home after a year. Ten years later, with hubby and two kids, we went to Orlando for hubby's job, and found the crime is pretty bad there, frequent murders and car-jackings. A sheriff's deputy lived in our building and two cars were stolen practically next to his. We left Florida after about 18 months.

There's no state income tax (at least, there wasn't when we lived there), but fees for driver's license, registration, etc. were quite a bit higher than we were used to, high deposits are required to get electric turned on, etc., because so many people move away again without paying. We also found pay to be rather low considering the cost of living. Expect to need monthly exterminator service to keep the bug population down, but don't expect to completely get rid of cockroaches! Tampa beaches are really pretty.

If you want nice weather and beaches, you might look into South Carolina. I've only visited there a couple days, so I don't know it like I know FLA, but I sure wouldn't recommend FLA, based on my experiences there.
I live in Rockledge since April 06. It is near the Kennedy Space Center in East Central Florida. It is nice here. Ilove it!! If I had to do it again, I would move to Miami Beach. (Not Miami). If you look at a map, it looks like the 2 towns are right next 2 each other. They are NOT!! Try 2 move as far south as possible. During Summer, It is not as hot in Miami Beach as it is in Central Florida. While during Winter, Miami Beach is nice and warm!! Also, I recommend to rent. There is a lot less responsibility.
