Are there any jobs that don't involve customer service?

I feel like I'm going to lose my mind! I work at the front desk of a hotel. Customers are rude, nasty and unappreciative. I'm not what you would call bubbly :) Some days I feel like quitting......College wasn't an option for me (no money for it, grades...)

I find myself being mean sometimes I feel like I can't help it! Can't bite my tongue in situations. Subservience is not my thing. Any suggestions?....HELP!!!!

Sorry you are having a rough day. Have you ever heard about the law of attraction?

I know it is tough, so don't take any of your customers anger personally, remember it is not you that they are directly angry at, but some people just don't know how to handle their anger or how to direct their feelings down the right path.

Now when someone is being a jerk the first thing you want to do is be a jerk back. We all know this doesnt truely make us feel any better and it will make the customer even more angy. We need to look at the situation and think, how do we defuse it?

Usually I would just tell the customer politly: "I am sorry sir, but you are directing your anger at the wrong person, now if you will please calm down I will help you resolve this situation, I am so sorry you are having a bad experience/day/time. Now please explain to me what the situation is."

Customers usually just want to be listened to and taken seriously.

When they tell you what the matter is you need to consider if you can fix it yourself or bring in someone higher on the ladder. If you can fix it yourself calmly tell the person what you are going to do for them. Then I would tell them that I hope things work out better for them now and that I wish them a good day.

If you cannot help them kindly explain to them that the situation is not something that you are authorized to handle. If you cannot bring a superior imediatly to help them tell them you will have someone within x amount of time and get their contact info or whatever you need.

Angry people are just missguided souls

Many people have been jerks to me and I have always shown kindness, quiet often most of them will thank you and quiet often some of them will tellyou they were sorry for the way they acted.

We are all just people in the end :)

Hope things work out for you Source(s): I worked in customer service for 7 years.
go to college. apply for financial aid. if you are already working in hotel, apply for hospitality program. maybe you can work in the management office, not the front desk, sort of behind the scenes so you dont have to deal with rude customers. maybe event planning or something to that extent. good luck!
Yes. Collections. IRS.
There are many jobs that don't deal directly with customers -- maids cleaning the rooms or cooks in the kitchen usually don't deal directly with customer complaints, for example. Or you could work in a warehouse loading trucks. Or you could go to a two year tech school and learn auto-mechanics. or electronic device repair, or computer programming, or A/C repair & installation.

Or you could simply learn how to avoid taking it personally whenever a customer is angry. They are upset at the suituation, or the company, not you.
