What should I do with this job? |
I took a job at a hotel, I was supposed to start today but the guy never emailed me back to say when to come in. So while I was sitting at home, I got a call from another hotel for an interview. I had nothing better to do, so I went. Well it went great, and it turns out this new hotel has better pay, less rooms, it is more relaxed... and the interview went GREAT. They said they will call in the morning to tell me if I got it. However, the old hotel guy finally emailed me and said that I am to start tomorrow morning (when the other hotel said they will be calling with a decision). What should I do? Since Hotel B has not offered you the position yet, go to work for Hotel A tomorrow. This way, just in case Hotel B does not offer you the position, you still have a job. Hotel B will leave you a message. Just because you won't be home, doesn't mean they won't hire you. Man, you are between a rock and a hard place. The first offer is definate. I'd take it. Suppose # 2 doesn't call, then you have nothing. Perhaps call # 2, tell him you have a firm offer, but you'd rather work for him. Can he give you a committment now? If no, ask him, if down the line, that position may be open again. Take it from there. Never fails, does it. You look for a job for weeks, then get many offers in 1 day. I once had 3 offers in 1 day. After # 2 made an offer, I called # 1 and told him I got a better offer. He wasn't too happy, but he understood. After all,# 2 was for 50.00 a week more. Then # 3 calls, offers $ 20.00 a week more than # 2, but was 10 miles further away. I turned down # 3. Good luck. You got some heavy thinking to do. |
