Would you apply for a job that you were positive you'd hate...? |
If you were almost sure you could get it, and you really needed a job? Theres a hotel near here hiring housekeepers. Its crappy pay, and when I went in to get the application, I could tell the place was a total dump.....but I have experience cleaning and I could probably get the job if I applied for it. Should I apply, even though I know I'll hate it? Or, should I hold off for something better. (I know I could get it for now and quit when something better came along...but I kinda feel bad leaving employers with no notice, no matter how crappy the job is) I say go ahead and apply for the job. You may have really cool coworkers that can make that crappy job seem a whole lot better. Also, you'll be able to network especially if you are really gregarious with guests. One of them may be able to give you the 411 on a better job. It may also motivate you to start your own cleaning business especially since you already have the experience. Maybe a coworker would be willing to come join you in your venture. I'm the same way when it comes to not wanting to leave an employer high and dry but I always remind myself: jobs for a life time ended with my grandparents generation and if they had to, that employer would get rid of me with out batting an eye. Loyalty is dead in today's job market. Sure, if that is the only thing I can get for the time being. no If you really need a job, I would take it. It is not like your stuck there for life. When something better comes along, you give them two weeks notice. No harm done! I say if you really,really need the money then apply for it and then start looking for a new job while you work Some money is better than none. Then keep looking. Give at least a week's notice - reputable employers will not think positively of a prospective employee who won't give advance notice to her soon-to-be former employer. Of course, make sure the job's in the bag before you give notice. As my dad used to say, I was looking for a job when I found this one. One thing I have learned is that the best time to look for a job is when you have one. You can be more selective this way in selecting your next employer. So I say take it, but keep looking. This way you will have some cash. |
