Night Auditor? |
What does a night auditor do at a hotel or Inn?What kind of job is it? The night auditor is the third shift front desk clerk at the hotel. He or she checks in the late arrival guests, but is most responsible for running the nightly reports on the computer, such as occupancy reports, checkout lists for the next morning, wakeup calls, etc. I was a manager at a hotel and ran the night audit many times. Once you learn the system, it is a pretty easy job. It can be lonely since you are by yourself all night in most cases, but you can always keep yourself busy. Depending on the hotel, you may have other responsibilities like doing laundry, cleaning around the front desk and breakfast area, hallways, and maybe mopping the pool area after it is closed. At my hotel, the night auditor also set up the breakfast area, but larger chains normally have a separate breakfast attendant. Overall, it is a cool job that will almost always have something new happening each night. I worked as a night auditor for a few years and boy do I have stories! Just let me tell you that you need to be careful. Make sure that the facility is secure. I worked in a locked office with only a small pass through and wierd stuff STILL happened to me. Its a dangerous job (depending on what part of town and the kind of clientele) so be aware of that, especially if you have to make deposits or take money out of the motel to the bank. The night auditor generally balances the books at the end of the night. If its a chain motel then you will probably just run reports on a computer. If its a mom-and-pop place you may have to work spreadsheets. Graveyard was fun for me and I really enjoyed the job. Good luck! |
