Job Hunting for disalbed people if anyone can give any ideals would be helpful Thank You.? |
I am a disabled man wil be searching for a job soon I am currrently a nanny for my sister they are selling their hosue so once they sell their house I wil no longer be a nanny to take care of my niece. I need some ideals what job are good for disabled people and that is called "Equal Opportunity" that mean they hire anyone whether reasonable accomadation or not. here the list of he jobs I am going to start off. Amtrak Postion Conductor duties Collecting tickets and assisting passenger. International Airpots Postion Janitoral Duties to clean up the airports (I think they pay good salary at the airports) BART Stations (Bay Area Rapid Transit) Postion Postion Janitoral Duties to clean up the airports (I think they pay good salary at the Stations) Movie Theaters Postion Janitoral Duties to clean up the airports (I think they pay good salary at the theaters) Hotels Position Unsure Target Store Postion Unsure Wal Mart Store Postion Unsure or if anyone give me any ideals. THERE ARE A FEW PLACES THAT I KNOW OF 1. the salvation army thrift stores my father is a conselor and they help a lot of disabled people with jobs also some stores like k- mart target but i would try salvation army there are lots of stores around .and its fun also i was doing volunteer work there for a week and had lots of fun the good will is also a fun place to try .good luck in your searching I know for a fact Wal-Mart, Kmart, Sears and Target all hire for this. Also, I'm not sure what previous job experience you have but I do know that if you go to or even email or call your local Labor Department they do special job training, free resumes, and they send out your resume for job positions that are open and that you qualify for in your local area. You might look into civil service. The pay is usually reasonably good and I believe they give preference to handicapped people. An acquantance of mine who is handicapped once had a job where they were trading on his handicap in getting contracts. He was offended by this and quit, started his own business and became very successful. Their should be agencies that deal with this, specifically, such as Vocational training services, that assist with preparation for and the job search itself. One such sevice is Jewish Vocational Services, which has offices/workshops in many cities. Go on-line and look up vocational/employment agencies for disabled persons. Personal experience. I attend Jewish Vocational Services(JVS) program(s), here in Chicago and heard of other JVS facilities elsewhere in the US. JVS is part of the Jewish Federation, I believe. What jobs you should apply for depend on what your disability is. The Equal Opportunity laws require that employers give you an equal shot at a job with other applicants if you would be able to do the job if they made reasonable accommodations. The definition of what's reasonable can sometimes be pretty fuzzy. Good luck in your job search. You don't mention what your disability is - whether or not you might need special accommodation to work. I'd suggest contacting your state employment agency. You can probably find them online or in the phone book. You should be able to get help with your job search: training, leads, resume advice. Also, don't limit your search because of your disability. Definitely search on sites such as monster.com and craigslist.com for positions. Apply for any that seem suitable for you. Many employers may be willing to work with you. Other work you should consider - receptionist and customer service rep. Good luck with your job hunt! |
