Is it legal for your work to supply accomidation with no hot water and heating? |
i have been given accomidation with my job. it has no hot water or form of heating can you tell me if this is legal? These are the minimum legal requirements. That it is structurally stable It is free from serious disrepair It is not so damp that it affects the health of the occupants It has adequate natural and artificial lighting, heating and ventilation It has an adequate supply of wholesome drinking water There are satisfactory facilities for preparing and cooking food, including a sink with a supply of hot and cold water It has a suitably located WC It has a suitably located bath or shower and hand basin, each with a supply of hot and cold water, and It has an effective system for draining sewage, foul water and waste water If your employment contract provided for accomodation, then the employer is liable to provide you with hot water and heating (unless your contract expressly relieved your employer of same). No its not legal. All rented accomdation must have basic human needs - ie. hot water and heating. I'd find a more decent employer! I live in the Philippines and very few dwellings have hot water and none have safe drinking water. The rats in my house will eat a Terrier . People defecate and urinate in the streets. And I live in a nice area. Most people cook on the floor on a char coal fired pot. Be thankful for what you have. It is legal in the UK Hell No ! Sue the Slum Lord |
