I have a sony vaio laptop but when it gets too hot it shuts off?is this a big job to get repaired??thanks?

It shouldn't get hot. Maybe your fan is broken. It shut dwon for safeguarding the machine

are you setting it on your lap? this blocks the air-flow on the bottom of the computer. place a sheet of plexiglass or aluminum on your lap and place the computer on it. it will keep your legs cooler too.

i dont think it is a massive job to get it repaired if it is being done by someone experienced but laptops are a pain to take apart and snagging a wire can cause a whole load of problems.

I wouldnt risk doing it yourself and take it to a local shop that knows something about laptops, should be done pretty much while you wait if they have the part in.
