Name some different ways I can go about finding a job.? |
I am a Paralegal. I have a resume and cover letter. I have the Sunday paper delivered weekly. I am on-line constantly searching Yahoo Hot Jobs, Monster Jobs, and other agencies. I have gone to the agencies and filled out applications. I dress appropriately. I have ettiquiette and professionalism. I have been out of work since May. Here it is December. Any suggestions on what I should do next? Network - do you have friends, relatives, or business contacts who work in this area? Ask them if they know of any openings, or if they know anyone else who would know. Are there organizations for paralegals? They might have meetings you could attend and meet people, or even some job postings. Or any other activity you can think of that people who hire paralegals would be attending. If all else fails, take up golf -you never know who you might meet in the club house! Find the addresses of some big/good law firms in your area and knock on their doors "cold!" You could also do the same thing with any public (City, State, Federal) offices/agencies! Resumes are nice to have but there are other people using the same indirect ammunition. You must hit the prospective employer direct and cold. The line to use is "I was in the building for some personal errant and I thought to stop and ask you if you have any openings for a paralegal" or something along those lines that would come natural to your way of expression. Good luck I 'm finding that the online Monster, Career Builders route is just saturated with temp/contractor jobs. What I did was check online and watch the various agencies that have the better full time perm jobs and then target them. Word of mouth, believe it or not, works. Send an email out to all of your friends indicating that you are still looking and could use their help; to keep you in mind should they hear of anything. The better jobs can take a year or two to find - what I had to do was take a Contractor job while I looked for full time perm - this way, the money was coming in and I could pick and choose which interviews I wanted to go on. Is there a Junior Women's League in your area - join them and network. Good luck!!!! It's not easy but you'll find something soon! |
