I want to move to Hawaii but I want a job there first does anyone know anyone I could contact?? |
It isn't the same just searching in Monster or Hot Jobs when I am not over there. I have Management experience. I just need a contact!!! I grew up in Hawaii but I'm not there now. Anyway, you may want to try something a friend of mine did when he wanted to move to Honolulu. He opened up a mailbox address over the phone and also got a local phone number that transfered into a voice mail. The cost of both were like $25 per month or something so it was reasonable. Then he got a copy of the Honolulu Star Advertiser from one of the international newstands (the main paper) and searched the classifieds. Of course that was back before the internet really took off so now you probably can check their classifieds online or even try job search sites for opportunities that might fit what you want to do. The reason for the local address and phone is because a lot of companies are reluctant to hire people who aren't already there, so giving the impression that you are there will help them to take your resume more seriously. Also remember that 90% of the population of Hawaii lives on Oahu so that's where you're most likely to find a job. Obviously a lot of the jobs are in the hospitality industry with some in others. Agriculture is no longer such a big thing and the pineapples and sugar cane fields are mostly for show at this point because it doesn't make sense for companies to do that in Hawaii anymore because of the costs. Now they go to the Philippines for stuff like that. The point is that I don't know where you were going to move in Hawaii but your best bet for a job is obviously Honolulu. Finally, a lot of people go to Hawaii on vacation and love it but after living there for a few months they start to get "rock fever" because if you want to take a break and go anywhere else for a weekend, its at least a 5 hour flight back to the mainland. You may not think you'll be like this, and maybe you won't, but some people get like that where they get tired of the way things are. |
