Internships In Australia....advice? |
Hi there. I am a sophmore going to a college in the U.S (Ohio). I still dont know what I am majoring in or have any idea of what I want to become but I do want to experience the world, i guess you could say. I was wondering if there are any majors that would be good to concentrate in if i were seeking an internship in Aus.? Are there any hot jobs there right now? i dont think i would want any job involved to much with business. My interests include: health animals people creativity music nature We don't do a lot of internships in Australia but there are some. You can get temporary, consulting or contract work but you will need a working holiday visa. Most people working their way around the place waitress, do bar work, fruit pick, flip burgers or stack supermarket shelves. All good experience even if it does not seem like it at the time. Searching Yahoo on "internships in Australia" gives 1950 hits. One near the top is in the fashion business. Just enjoy yourself there! Most of us will probably move there once the illegeals take over ! lol! I am fairly sure you can't get an internship in Australia unless you are an Australian citizen. The best thing you could do is look at the different options available for immigrants/visitors on this site http://www.immi.gov.au/index.htm... Check if your university has an exchange program with another university in Australia. Go over and study in Australia for a semester - you might study in a field that has work experience. A sad fact of life is that jobs that are boring, dirty, unromantic, require heaps of training or involve business are the "hot" jobs, with high demand and high salaries. That is why miners in Australia make more money than musicians. |
