Graduating in May, when to start applying for jobs (relocating)?

I will graduate May 2008 with a degree in Finance, minor in Accounting. I currently go to school in Memphis, TN, but have definite plans to move to Nashville, TN (3 hours apart) as soon as I can get a job and moved after graduation.

When do I start applying for jobs based on my major and relocation plans? Any advice for networking in a city you don't live in? I have 1 1/2 years of work experience in my fields, but it's all here in Memphis

I would think the first of the year would be good. There are challenges to looking for a job someplace your not (relocated 3 times) and you want to make sure that your not still looking when you graduate.

Since you're a new grad, there's no harm in starting to apply now. You might even be able to interview during winter break.

Check out your school's alumni association. They might have networking get togethers. Also go to your school's career center. It's likely that some Nashville companies could hold on campus interviews in Memphis. Also, feel free to post a resume on craigslist and Monster.

now is fine - you might get lucky and be able to arrange some interviews during school break and have a job waiting for you at graduation
