Will you get a job out of college if you graduate with a GPA under 3.0?

I am graduating in May, it college is challenging for me, and will not graduate with a solid 3.0 GPA. Every job I look at wants to talk to kids with 3.0s, 3.25s, 3.6s. There does seen to be anything out there for just the average student. Anyone know of any?

GPA rarely matters. What matters is your experience and how you sell yourself.

I've never been asked about my GPA, perhaps it depends on your field.

There are tons of jobs out there. You just have to keep looking. Search craigslist.

Its better to get perfect grades but if you don't, its certainly not the end of the world.

A college degree in a guarantee of only 1 thing, and that is, that you will be able to hang a college degree on your wall. Statistically speaking, you will earn more money than non-college graduates, but there are plenty exceptions to that rule. Also, you don't have to put your gpa in your resume, and few employers will ask.

Getting a job doesn't have only to do with your GPA - it also has to do with your personality, your maturity, your experience and other factors. Nothing is stopping you from applying for those jobs - even if they specify a higher GPA - you never know if tons of people have applied for them, or if no one has applied for them and they are still actively recruiting. And it could show a little initiative on your part. If you can accompany your low GPA with some good community service, volunteer work or previous job experience, it goes a long way toward mitigating the low number.

It depends on a lot of factors, your specific degree and the reputation of your school being the biggest ones. If you manage to get a 2.5 in thoeretical physics from MIT, that will get you a lot more offers than a 4.0 in origami from Podunk U.

In general, don't stress it. Even if they ask for a specific GPA, most employers will be far more interested in the fact that you have a degree at all than how well you tested.

well what i think is that if you see a job you want go for it. in all reality if you get an interview what will get you the job is YOU and how you present yourself. yeah lets say you're a bit low but if you show them that you are just as good as those others with a higher one they just might give you a chance. i mean, if you get an interview its all about you right there. so dont let that discourage you go for it. and remember, be a good sales person and sale yourself right.

The fact that you have a degree is the most important thing.
So I would say you should have no problem. Just make sure you have a good resume and present your self well at any interviews. First impression is very important. Show self confidence, but not arrogance.

Yes! Maybe they will even let you work the French fry machine. But seriously, though. Unless you are applying to a very prestigious law firm or something of that magnitude, most employers do not even check your grade point average. That piece of paper they give you in exchange for the thousands of dollars and years of hard work is all they want to see. Happy hunting.
