Help, I am a senior in college and I am really worried. I need your help. Suggestions please! What can I do?

I'm really trying hard to bring up my GPA. It is only a 2.63. I am trying to get at least a 3.0 by the time I graduate but what if I don't? What are my chances of getting a good job with such a crappy GPA? I am really involved in school, I am a resident assistant, a member of SIFE which is sort of a business club and an array of other activities. I feel like this is my last shot and I need to make it. I am really worried and I want things to work out. I am trying to see if maybe I could get an internship during Christmas break and also try to take some classes to bring up my GPA even more. I am thinking of getting into advertising but I am not really sure, I really just need someone to answer this question and give me some suggestions on what to do before it is too late. Please I will take all the suggestions that you have. Is it too late for me to bring up my GPA, probably so, I guess I will just have to live with this failure or just try to stop living in the past. Please help.

Could I take courses during winter break to help boost my GPA or would trying to find a winter internship be better? I would like to go on to grad school in a few years but wont doing well on the GREs and having work experience help me out?

You can bring up your GPA, but it is unlikely you can get it to a 3.00. Don't panic; it's not the end of the world.

I am quite familiar with SIFE. My college has been regional champions over 10 times. Use the resources of the SIFE organization to aid in the job hunt. Their resources are tremendous.

Yes, you will be hurt by your GPA. It will make it harder to compete with those who have a GPA of 3.00 or above. But, it's not impossible for your to get a good job. Your involvement with SIFE will be a benefit, particularly if your team was successful.

And remember, the first job out of school does not have to be your last job. If the job offer is less than you want, use it to build a successful resume and try for a better job in a couple years.

You're going to have a really hard time getting your GPA up to a 3.0. If you have three years of a 2.63 average, you'll need a 4.0 this year just to get a 3.0 overall. Fortunately for you, you don't need to put your GPA on your resume, and many potential employers won't ask. If you have good interview skills, you should be able to get a decent job, anyways. Work on your interview skills. That will be the thing that you can improve on most easily in a short time. If you ever want to get a master's degree, though, your low GPA will come back to bite you.

To prospective employers grades aren't nearly as important as you think they are. Don't worry about it. What's more important to them is did you have any experience such as summer internships etc.

You seem to be a good writer. Advertising is a good field for you and the fact that you're involved in many activities is a good reference for this field. However, maybe you're a little too involved. Can you cut down on some of the activities this year and devote more time to your studies? Also, try to study with a friend. Discussing problems as they arise always helps to clarify them and pays off when midterms and finals come around. You're not a "failure."
My most important suggestion: Review your notes every day. If you're not a good note-taker, record the lectures and classmates' comments and listen at least once. I guarantee this will help you bring up your GPA. Good studying!

Well Darling, Congratulations first and foremost on making it through college and becoming a senior, that's a big accomplishment as it is. As for raising your GPA try to eliminate some of the acivities you have now to focus on raising it, talk to a professor, a tutor, anything that can increase your GPA, trust me, it sounds like you are very eager and willing and dedicated, you CAN DO IT!!

You would really need to bust your but to bring up that GPA. Maybe if you skim down on your activities then you will be able to obtain your goal....Your GPA will not be a factor in getting a good job, the employers are only concerned about whether or not you have a degree. So as long as you graduate, you should have no problem. But if you are trying to get into a Grad program then you might want to research that.

Well, Thomas M is right, employers won't ask for your GPA. However, I think you should really think about why your GPA is only 2.63. Often the GPA does show through the student's behavior. Did you procrastinate? Are you a slow learner? Was it apathy? Lack of discipline? Can't focus? No time management skills? Disorganized? Cannot prioritize? Unrealistic? These are all things that will make you a bad hire, and employers do care about these. These are things you can work on. So you need to evaluate yourself and then change into THINKING like a high achiever. Then at the interview act like one, too. Often the students with low GPA tend to dress more sloppily (just rolled out of bed), talk with a slurred speech and write illegibly (don't care), late to appointments (disorganized), and probably one of the worst is the insecurity that shows on the face. If you know who you are, then just leave the past in the past.
