Have any of you quit your full-time job to attend graduate school full-time? |
I realize you could work full-time and attend graduate school, but have any of you quit a full-time desk job to attend graduate school full-time? If so, what were your reasons? What impact did it have on your career in the long-term? How did it work out? Did you live in the dorms? Yes, I did quit a full time job to attend graduate school (MBA) full time after a semester as a part-time student. I did it for several reasons: * It was going to take me too long to get my degree one or two courses at a time in the evenings. * It was going to really mess up my life spending all those years either in class every night or getting ready for class - no days, nights, or weekends off for about 4 years. UGH! * My job wasn't worth keeping - 4 years at the low pay while attending school wasn't much in comparison with a couple of years at a much higher salary. * My husband had a good job, and could support me through graduate school (as I had earlier supported him through his graduate school program). It was the right thing for me to do. My job might have led to something better, but I doubt it. I've done much more interesting things since getting my MBA and made much more money than I would have without it - definitely a Win/Win for me. I hope you will be as lucky in which ever path you choose! as hard as it gets don't quit it'll make you more responsible in the long run. when i went to college, after a year i had to quit my job. even though i was going to school for 4 hours everyday and 8 hours on Saturday.i had lots of overtime at work. my class was getting harder and i had no car so i had to take the bus to school. and my teacher was the worst at explaining stuff. i left work and instead studied the whole day everyday so i can pass my class. eventually did, but later didn't find another job and decided to stay in school until i graduated. later i did not do an internship, which i now regret. and a year later I'm still looking for a job on what i worked so hard on. so no, don't quit your job, every experience is necessary. |
