What is the best way for a new college graduate to find a job? |
I recently graduated from college with a b.s. in healthcare administration in may. I am having a hard time finding a job because I only have experience through my internships an customer service through my regular job. I was wonder what is the best avenue to take when trying to apply for a new job? I have went the the classified, monster.com, ihire, and company websites. What is the average time it takes after to graduating to find something in your field? I am in the same boat as you, with a Healthcare and Public Administration BA. I am running through all the usual channels (online job boards, my college job placement dept.) and no luck. First of all you should prepare yourself to start out at the bottom of the payscale. Check your local state gov positions because a lot of times the state Community Health dept. will take applicants with no exp. but with a degree (search web by entering state name.gov ie.. california.gov and look for state positions). This is a great way to get experience and gov. jobs are great. I would find a recruiter (or more than one) who specializes in health care administration. They will have the hook up. Well good luck online resumes it eases the pain if you didn't get the job coming from an email than someones lips apply internships are great! it gives you experience...but a lot of schools have partnerships with companies to provide jobs...or the school should at least have a job placement area. best ways. buy a newspaper and check the openings, ask your friends, and it will take two months max to get one :) You should have been trying to get contacts during your interships. Ask everyone you know if they know someone who might know someone to give you a job. Go to your placement office at your college. They should help you. Go to job fairs. Check Craigslist if you are in an area that has one. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/ Go to the right side and click on your state. Go to temp agencies and apply...they have a lot of jobs and many are NOT administrative type work as they were in the past. If you get hired as a temp it often can work into fulltime. Don't think that your first job out of college will be at the top of the heap. It won't be. |
