Mature age civil engineer graduate's chances in Australia? |
Hi, I am 26 this year and have an IT degree. Am planning a career change and would be taking up Civil Engineering undergraduate degree in Western Australia. What do you think of my chances of being able to secure a graduate civil engineering job at the age of 31 after getting my Permanent Residency(PR)? Would it be really tough? Just a note, am Asian, and hopefully that does not affect my chances too much. Frank answers appreciated! At age 26, the world is your oyster. You're not even close to mature. I'm currently going through a CPA program in the US and will be sitting for the exam later this year. (And I'm about 20 years older than you.) Personally, I think accounting is a far better choice. Salary range is equal at entry level and higher with experience, and accounting is getting more and more in demand. (Hint: having an IT degree makes you a great candidate as an auditor.) |
