I have seen many helicoptor pilot training programmes... do the graduates ever get jobs? Yes. There are many openings available if you qualify. The fine print is, though, you finish school with around 200 hours training depending on what licenses you have. Most entry-level positions would like you to have 1000 to 1500 hrs. So, you have to get 800+ hrs to become employable. At $225-$250 per hour you need alotta money. Most schools will hire you as a flight instructor upon graduating from their school (as long as you recieved your Instructor ratings), thus you rack up that 800 hrs while being a paid a small salary. Instructing is the most common way to build this time, there are very few other ways to build flight time. The most important factor is whether you have enough money to complete your training. Consider inflation and rising gas costs because these can change the total of your flight training. If you pull a loan for $45,000-$50,000 be aware rising costs may drive it up beyond that by the time you near completion of your training. This happenned to me, now I'm so busy repaying the loan, that I can't afford to finish school (and there are MANY pilots in this situation!). The military is another option IF you qualify for, and IF you complete officer and flight training. Then many military aviators still don't have a large amount of flight time (non combat pilots leave with an average under 1000 hrs total time), thus they still need to pull loans to acquire Instructor's licences in order to build more time. Good luck!!! Yes most of the army pilots get out and get jobs being corporate pilots for major companys or get a job as a medflight pilot. I recieved my training at Universal Helicopter in Scottsdale AZ. It cost me a ton. 87000 but that was with a living expence also. I went full time. As far as work. As soon as I graduated as a CFII I went to work a another school. When I got to 580 or so I started looking for real jobs and what do you know. I have one. I do not do instruction anymore I am a full time corporate pilot. The 1000 to 1500 hours the other guys are talking about are honestly more realistic for most pilots, I just happen to be that good....... ha ha .. Lucky is more like it. The opertunities are there you just have to take the dive and go after it. JUST DONT GO THE THE SILVER SCHOOL. Trust me on that one. |
