I just desire to know the job prospects for graduate students of English in north America and Europe in genera |
I just want to know how the job market is for a PhD in English/ Cultural Studies in the US, Canada, Australia, NZ and European countries. Let me know if you have any information on any of those countries. BLEAK AT BEST Well, those who can't use spell check, and evidently have some word choice problems (you seriously "desire" to know?), are doomed to wander the halls of academia, being mocked and despised by self-congratulatory undergrads. Those with better-developed language skills may become writers, and live timid, uncomfortable lives seeking the approval of morons with enough spare change to buy a copy of their scribbles, or kissing up to a patron for a crust of bread and a cold garret to sleep in. Look, puddin', the truth is that degrees are not worth squat. What matters is talent, wit, intelligence and skill. Knowledge can be acquired to handle any task, even disseminating knowledge, but those four elements are priceless and what any employer, at any level, truly wants. So ask yourself, "how talented, witty, intelligent and skilled am I?" If you find, in your fair and balanced (heh) assessment of yourself, that you are deficient in any of these areas, work on those areas and you will find your prospects of gainful employment increasing immeasurably. Just a word from your Uncle Grendle. Obviously, judging from the two answers you've received already this was not the best choice of places to pose this question - I am assuming you would like a serious answer so I would suggest that you try one of the employment search web sites and type in your information and see what comes up - you could also contact the chamber of commerce, human resources department of whichever locations you are interested in or try the web site of specific companies you might be interested in working for - Since signing on to the yahoo answers site I noticed that the majority of the participants are younger folks who are bored and just like to clown around - there are a few who seriously pose and answer questions but there is alot of junk posted too - good luck - |
