When should I resign from my job if I'm going to graduate school in the fall? |
I will be starting graduate school in the fall. I've only been working at my company for 1.5 years and have not given any indication that I am pursuing graduate school. Since I know my last day well in advance, should I keep it to myself until the standard 2 weeks notice, or let them know sooner? I work in a consulting firm with many talented individuals, so finding a replacement is not that difficult. I'm posed with that same question. I resigned last week, but my last day is June 15, 2006. I chose this date based upon my finances. I wanted to pay off my bills first and secure a temp. position with another company. This will free up my employment status for paid internships and study time. The sooner they know the better. This gives them time to bring in someone new and if you let them know early they may ask for your input on who should take the position and may ask you to shadow and train this individual before you leave. You can add these skills to your resume as training and it also looks good when you go back to work that you were assigned such tasks. It makes you look like a team player and an asset to your previous employer. Wait until the two weeks are close at hand. Submit your resignation letter specifying your last day at that time. http://www.professional-resume-example.c... |
