Why are government, or any jobs 37.5 hours a week?

They still have benefits but why the reduced hours?

I work for the government. Yes if you include the two thirty minute paid breaks a day, then it is true we do only work 37.5 hours a week. However in the private sector, I worked for a company and they also gave two paid thirty minute breaks. So I really don't know.

The government doesn't care about productivity.

Im not sure what you mean exactly... and I work for the government. At my job (With the County of Riverside in CA) we work a 9/80 which is you work 9 hours a day so that you can have every other friday off. Then the Friday that you do work, you only work 8 hours to total your 80 hours for the pay period. The goverment pays their employees on a bi-weekly basis-perhaps that is where your issue lies.

Or perhaps you mean the hours of vacation and sick time that we accrue on a bi-weekly basis and some employees take a lil too much advantage of?
