Why has our government allowed so many jobs to leave the USA?

Why has our government allowed so many jobs to leave the USA?

The government isn't allowing them to leave: They are driving them away. More and more people are being elected that are anti-corporate and are making so many more rules hurting companies that they can make a larger profit by moving out of the country. And profits are what drive a company.

the gov't had to allow because unions drove them over-sea...don't blame the gov't...it was your unions

because its the government backwards always.

because the govt is ran by corporations

ask the Democrats who had the majority in the House and Senate and the Presidency with Bill Clinton in 1993..when they passed NAFTA

because that equals freedom. after a while the government will get smart and realize that the problems with 'taxing the rich' is that the rich can go else where. I think we should have a fair and easy taxing system. when the tax book is larger than the bill of rights there is a huge problem.

[edit]
i also agree that unions are a big problem as well, mainly because the the corruption in them... just look at the teachers union... the worst one that exists (thought its not related to over seas jobs)

So big business can turn a tidy profit at our expense.

There is a saying, 'If we don't hang together, we will hang separately". People have not stood together to demand accountability of corporations nor that elected officials work to keep jobs from leaving. On the contrary, people are too happy to blame unions, laud highly paid hatchet men posing as CEOs' and make bankruptcy more difficult.

The chickens are coming home to roost with lower paying jobs, slumping auto industry and home mortage defaults. Fewer peopl can afford the high ticket items.

Purchases/consumption speaks much louder than votes. Citizens' purchases/consumption suggests that people want to be able to buy, buy, buy, consume, consume, consume, cheap, cheap, cheap. The only way for governments to give people what they want --continued and uninterrupted cheap buying and consuming -- is to support corporations that outsource their manufacturing supply chains to maximize profits. Moving manufacturing and service industries overseas maximizes profits since labor overseas demand less salary. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

If there is a solution, it is to minimize drastically all purchases, i.e., recycle, reuse, reduce; wear it/use it until it is completely worn out, etc. When you do purchase, buy local, be very aware of the supply chain and manufacturing morality of the producers, and be willing to pay more.

Unions want $47 an hour to screw in bolts when you can get someone else to do it for .50cents an hour.

This is a fact. If you can accept this, then you shouldn't be surprised why jobs are leaving.

They don't love us anymore

I think they figured it was going to be good for the economy because it would encourage revenue growth from lower wages. Trickle down gets stuck in the sink trap!
btw, I could use a job because mine just ended. I was getting paid the same rate ten years ago. <17k per year.

Since it IS America, private companies can do as they please. If they choose to make their products in places such as China, Mexico, India etc they are looking after the bottom line: profits.

There are no unions or apparently labor laws to protect the people in those countries from being worked for many long hours for very little pay.

Besides, the Republicans have always supported big business; they don't give a s*** about the rest of us; unless of course, it is an election year.

Let me spell it out for you:

Option A: a business can pay an American worker $20 an hour, pay 30% income tax, 30% payroll tax, and fend off OSHA and EPA lawsuits.

Option B: a business can pay a foreign worker 2$ an hour, pay 10% tax and not have to worry about frivilous lawsuits.

If you are a buinsess man, trying to compete in a global market and not go out of buinsess, which option will you pick?
Then ask yourself who is responsible for artificially high wages (minimum wage, unions), high taxes, massive regulation, and frivilous lawsuits.

lol...the government does NOT control industry in a free society doofus...

It's called 'outsourcing' and it's an ever-growing problem in this country. The gov't created NAFTA, specifically the Clinton Administration, for those of you who are actually ignorant enough to consider voting for Hillary. But the government is not soley to blame. In fact, I would put little or no blame on the government. In this world, it's just plain business.

Wal-Mart has played a role in this growing problem too. Wal-Mart demands a lot of respect from it's suppliers. Take for example Huffy Inc., the bicycle manufacturer. Years ago Huffy was sold at nearly every bicycle and department store on the planet. Then with illusions of grandure, Huffy went through the rigorous process of vying for a position as a Wal-Mart vendor. And why not. Wal-Mart moves more product than any other retailer in the world. The folks at Wal-Mart were very encouraging toward the management at Huffy. Once approved as a vendor/supplier, Huffy sales went through the roof. Profits were up and everyone in the little town of Celina, Ohio was joyful and prosperous. Im kidding a little here. But, for the town of Celina, OH, Huffy was an iconic landmark - as important to the people of Celina as say a GM plant in Arlington, TX. The market kinda drives communities to support and encourage local businesses like this. Huffy employed a lot of folks in Celina and was highly regarded in doing so.

Then Wal-Mart came to the table to renew their vendor/supplier agreement with Huffy. This time, Wal-mart changed their approach. Huffy realized the importance of Wal-Mart's sales ability.Wal-Mart simply broadened its approach by demanding Huffy supply the bicycles at a substantially lower cost per unit while Wal-Mart increases it's margin by only slightly reducing the cost to the end user and further increasing sales. Wal-Mart remains the neighborhood good guy store. You might remember Wal-Mart, back in the 80's and early 90's touting their exclusive Made In The USA campaign. Well if Huffy is to continue selling USA bicycles at Wal-Mart, then they must reduce the cost per unit so that Wal-Mart can remain market competitive.

With the next contract renewal came more demands in price reduction. This time Wal-Mart not only wanted even more substantial reductions in unit costs, but also enticed the Huffy folks into becoming the exclusive bicycle at Wal-Mart. Gradually over the years, Wal-Mart gained more leverage over its suppliers and became more and more agressive in its negotiations. Once Wal-Mart forces their suppliers to become ever-more dependant upon them, the more leverage they can use against them. So now, the fate of the Huffy Bicycle Co. rests solely in the hands of Wal-Mart.

Each contract renewal brought more threats of removing the product line from Wal-Marts across the country, which by this time, would kill the Huffy Bicycle Co, and cost thousands of jobs in Celina, OH. Eventually, the cost per unit decreased to the point that Huffy could no longer afford its labor costs and began a series of layoffs that had a profound impact in the community. Eventually, the workforce could no longer keep up with the supply demands from Wal-Mart. The management finally did what many of Wal-Mart's USA brands had to do ---- moved production to China. Haven't heard those Made In The USA claims in a while have you?

Today, Wal-Mart is getting a classic American bicycle at a fraction of the cost per unit. And why not, a 10 yr old chinese boy is building them for less than $.80 per day.

Oh, and Wal-Mart doesnt just sell bicycles.

This is an easy one...corporate greed, corporate welfare, corporatocracy...get the idea?

Unemployment is 4.7% so we have a surplus of jobs

Simply put "CORPORATE GREED" and the need to keep greedy stock holders happy!

The government has no control over where jobs are.

The government doesn't create jobs, so how could they prevent them from moving over seas.

If you want to blame anyone for out sourcing jobs.

Then look in a mirror, and blame the person looking back at you.

Thats right, us american citizens are the reason jobs move overseas.

We want cheaper products.

So next time you buy a japanese made car or any other product made overseas, just to save a few bucks.

Slap yourself silly, for sending american jobs overseas.

We have met the enemy, and he is us.
