Ever applied for a government job? Concerned about suitability issues w/ background check and fingerprint.HELP

I have had fingerprints taken for a federal agency position and am undergoing a background check. Also, they are doing a credit check to make sure I do not owe student loans, or past due government money of any sort, bankruptcy, things of that nature. They are trying to find out my level of suitability. I do have suitibility issues though I was told they are more than likely pretty minor;misdemeanor assault & battery in 05 w/ 2 weeks time served, and larceny w/ 1 year probation completed in 04. It has now been almost 4 weeks and my results still are not back. Though I am very optimistic, and feel they will give me a conditional hiring situation, fingerprints and background checks usually only take a few days. Consequently, the original job applied for has been missed due to them not being completed in time. I am still confident as I have a few more lined up. Please tell me your personal situation and what was the result to the investigation as well as the government job.Any advice?

The larceny charge is more than likely keeping you from qualifying. No one likes to hire a convicted thief.

And the reason they told you that your issues are "pretty minor" is that they were afraid you would go postal on them.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket and keep looking for another job outside of the government. Then if they ever do extend you an offer you can decide whether to stay or leave the job you find now.

Good luck

Thorough background checks usually take more than a few days especially if it is in a secure area. The only way to find out is to call and ask for a status of your application.

Nothing personal, but you are a criminal, you do not belong on the tax payers payroll. You should be looking in the private sector.

I am also in the midst of background/fingerprint check for a government job.

I have nothing in my background to prevent them from hiring me. Excellent credit, never arrested, never charged with any crime, no BMV offenses, excellent references, steady employment, etc.

I don't know why you are optimistic with your background. I would never even have applied if I were you. Frankly, I would not be happy to know someone with your record was a government employee.

Seriously, I can't believe this.
