If a Democrat gets elected in 08, should we just quit our jobs and live off the government? Why or Why Not?

I mean why should poor Democrats get all the free stuff, What say you?

As taxes continue to rise, which will certainly be the case with a Dem in the White House, more and more people will have no incentive to work. In turn, the government will be burdened by huge increases in the welfare rolls, to the point that the whole system collapses.

Why... a democrat was in office from 1992 til 2000...unemployment was very, very low then...why would people quit working now?

You mean like Bush does?

No.

No one lives off the government now, so I'm not sure why it would begin depending on a certain party in the oval office in 2008.

Welfare was reformed and limited during the Clinton administration, a so called socialist regime.

People on public assistance do not live in mansions or have all these expensive consumer goods. They live in poor neighborhoods ridden with crime and violence. It is not a glamorous life.

GET A CLUE

If you're a conservative, aren't you supposed to be against hand outs? I realize your question is supposed to be sarcastic, but it's not only Democrats who benefit from things like welfare, food stamps and other government programs. To think otherwise is very ill-informed.

I have no clue what you are talking about. What free stuff? I have not received a cent for free from the government. I pay my taxes, in fact local taxes have increased because of Bush's wreckless tax cuts.

As for you devolving into laziness: I challenge you to try living on welfare. It's not much. Good luck.

I'm a Democrat. I haven't gotten any free stuff. That's not fair. Where do I sign up for my free stuff?

Well if everyone does that. who will be paying to support those programs?

Come on!!! Nobody who is in this forum really believes that Democrats are advocating unemployment and living off the government. Stop listening to Rush and Sean so much and look at what we really want.

Welfare expanded the most during the Nixon and Reagan administrations. During the Clinton administration it was reformed so that able bodied people had to find work or lose their benefits. If you want to quit your job and live in poverty go for it. It shouldn't matter who is President.

Personally, I feel better about myself when I work for a living. The poor can use all the help they can get. It's the rip-offs the super rich pull on the middle class that has me pissed. If you really want to shake the money tree try hitting those guys.

That's what you did for the 8 years bill was president.

I'm a poor Democrat and I work my *** off and I've received squat from the govt' - but I know for a fact that big oil and big business get s**tloads of tax breaks and subsidies from the gov't, businesses that even report billions in profits each year -

if you want handouts from the gov't your best bet is to get a paid-off judge to condemn some public land, drill oil out of it, and demand gov't subsidies to get the oil out, because of legislation mandating our continued energy dependence solely on oil, then sell the oil to the citizens whose land you stole - and badda-bing! your fortune will ensure your ability to pay off even more public officials (gops) and ensure your continued energy monopoly!

whee!

Yes, you should definitely quit your job at burger king, or Chick-Fil-A, or wherever the hell you work...and try to live on welfare for a while....I'm not saying the system is perfect...but there are people who legitimately need a leg up, not because they are lazy, or any of the other lame excuses you xenophobic, homophobic, racist little Bush-monkeys give on here....I'd rather have my tax money going to help another American, than dumped into the money pit of Iraq.

The ignorance being displayed here is staggering. Let's dispel a few rumors that have somehow festered into facts:

(1) For starters, the unemployment rate in the U.S. has been lower than it was during the salad days of the Clinton administration for over a year now. Have you heard the mainstream liberal media passing that little fact on to the American public? Heck no, and you won't -- they want Hillary in the Oval Office next year.

(2) There was no welfare reform during the Clinton Administration. What happened in the late '80's and early '90's is many states placed limits on how long a person may receive welfare and also capped the amounts a person on welfare could receive -- so people would not get more welfare for continuing to have more and more children. Slick Willie did absolutely nothing about the welfare program (Why would he alienate his voter base?)

(3) Those who believe Republicans are anti-welfare have been brainwashed by the mainstream liberal media. Conservatives want to make bigger investments in the welfare system -- in the form of job training programs and job placement assistance. In addition, Republicans are against the current system that penalizes you dollar-for-dollar if you get a job. Instead, conservatives want people who return to the work force to be slowly weaned off welfare, giving welfare recipients more time to get back on their feet. The idea here is to return the welfare system to the way FDR intended it (TEMPORARY). And those who say Republicans are against handouts are also wrong -- conservatives support using tax dollars to support those who can't support themselves due to disabilities. Republicans are simply against giving handouts to people who are able-bodied and can work but refuse to.

To answer your question: Not all Democrats want John and Jane Q. Public to live off the government, but there is one in particular who does. Won't mention any names, but if SHE gets into office we're all in big trouble.

I'm not only going to become a democrat, I'm going to become an illegal alien. My working days are over!!

I think we should run for Congress and serve one term and get free medical and retirement for life.

if a democrat gets elected in 08, we should just move to australia.
they say that we're just putting this country into debt and how it's all Bush's fault. umm, is giving free handouts for everything going to help that situation?
