Is there any government programs to train People With Disabilities for Federal Jobs?

Is there any government programs to train People With Disabilities for Federal Jobs?

All states have vocational rehabilitation programs. Having a disability alone does not qualify people for training; there are other conditions. The disability has to be an impediment to employment, the person will be able to benefit from vocational rehabilitation services and is capable of an employment outcome. There are no "set aside" or specific jobs here. After a very thorough evaluation and assessment, the person seeing services is presented with options that match their interests, abilities, capabilities, priorities and other important factors. The person uses this information to make an informed choice of what kind of work they want to prepare for and pursue and with the help of a VR counselor prepares a plan for employment. Labor market information is also considered, so if one has the ability to train for and perform a certain job and it is an in demand job in the Federal Government and elsewhere, this might be a good option for pursuing Federal or other types of employment. To find your local office, keyword vocational rehabilitation and the state or town you are located in on your favorite search engine.

Are you talking about Mental or Physical disability?

In Arizona I know that they have free nurse training for unwed, teenage mothers...

The American's With Disabilities Act has made it so much harder for the disabled to get good jobs... We are now a Liability Factor and not just another person looking for a job!!

If you find any programs for the disabled can I beg upon you to let me know too?

Check with your state's website. Send an email to every contact name you can find asking for links or mailings on any programs that they offer.

That is how I found out about the SBA's free classes for small business owners and their mentoring program.

It never hurts to ask as many people as you can find because they will pass your email along until it gets to the right person.

If by chance you are from Canada, they say there is, its on the internet site, but the program doesnt really exist. I phoned about it and was told they hadnt really managed to get that implimented and had discarded the whole idea.

Its just there for PR, to make the Harper Govt look good when able bodied people are searching their site. They will think the Govt does so much for the disabled what do they have to complain about.

The U.S. Govt. fired me for my disabilty.
The law states they are to give me rehab
but they never did it, I went back to school and paid my own rehab, then worked for another 12 years. My arthritis got so bad I had to give up.
I would go back to work in a minute if I could.
If you go to a private training school your chances are much better. If you can hide you disability that is the best.
Most of it is all talk, your neighbors, the legislators are uncomfortable with the disabled. They mght take their jobs.
And they might have to put out a penny.
Don't let anything stop you. Nothing comes of nothing. All progress comes hard and at a price. Look at the fight to get ramps and other devices in public places. I am cynically optimistic we will have a viable and functioning rehab that can help us train for jobs that exist. Good luck!Dont forget to give thanks when progress is made

There are programs that train people for jobs. There are college degrees that educate you for federal jobs. There a federal jobs that once you get them you can get further training. But there is no training that gets you a federal job.

No its a time waste.

The U.S.Government only hires people with mental disabilities.

Your local County Voc Rehab office should be able to help you out. There is also the Dept of Veterans Affairs Voc Rehab.
