Why get a degree in finance? Aren't there too many of them?

It appears there are no jobs in finance unless you have an ivy degree. Is it too saturated?

I guess it depends on what market you are talking about. Demand for finance majors in Detroit are down I'm guessing (or for anything pretty much). Most areas in the United States though show a steady demand for both accounting and finance majors. An Ivy league degree may actually prove to be a liability, as many employers are unwilling to pay the kind of salary a grad from an Ivy league school demands, so among them there is more competition for the jobs with the absolute top payscale.

They need accountants in rural areas.
Finance is one of the hottest fields- you can work in a variety of positions- why not minor in management or logistics or marketing and have an even broader degree- many jobs just want a general business degree of any kind- include an internship and join finance clubs to pad your resume and get ahead of others

There are too many of them. I knew many finance majors in college who really just picked the major because it was easier than accounting but seemed more useful than some of the other business majors. Many of them got jobs out of college after looking very hard and most of those jobs were not what they really wanted to start out in. I was an accounting major and I will tell you from experience that accounting majors have no problems finding the job they want. Plus, every single things I ever learned in any of the finance classes I took was actually covered in the accounting classes. But, the accounting classes also covered a ton of other info too. Also, no one who has a bachelor's degree in accounting ever really has to be a clerk or low level book keeper unless they really want to do that since there are so many other positions available and there is such a shortage of accountants.
