Accounting to Finance? |
I graduated with a degree in finance in august of 2005. I would love to get a job working in asset management of with a brokerage company. All i have been able to find is accounting positions. I currently work for a mortgage company as a senior cash mgmt specialist. I wouldn't mind going into sales either. Any suggestions? There seems to be a real shortage of accountants now, since the craziness of Sarbanes-Oxley took over. There are lots of opportunities in the investment field, but many of them are commission-based. And your success will also be based upon the strength of your contact network. Thus, it's difficult to get started unless you already have a nest egg put aside. If you're really committed, there are lots of opportunities out there, but few new graduates seem to have the commitment, experience, and resources to make something like that work. If you want to maintain a solid salary, and gradually gain experience, a good first step might be to go into banking, and ease your way over to their brokerage division later. Source(s): www.valueview.net go to career builders www great hires and do your resume on line these guys will match your application Unfortunitely there are always lots more accounting jobs than finance jobs. You just have to be patient and wait for your opportunity. If you want to work in asset management, you may want to consider getting a CFA or MBA. |
