Masters in Finance vs. Masters in Economics?

Being a senior in college is reminiscent of those days as a senior in High School. Few answers, more questions, and that is where I turn to you folks.

Ideally, I want to get into a masters in Finance program. However, most of the top programs today require at least two years job experience. I do not want to turn to necessarily go this route, since people I have talked to have said that it is definitely harder going back to school after starting any job. Also, I am personally in favor of getting a masters degree at the earliest, rather than later. So, I am also considering a masters in economics. What are the tradeoffs in going this route versus the other?

I would love to hear your suggestions and opinions. Thank you for your advice and happy holidays!

i am also facing this problem. but generally, i think its better to take master after obtainig some working experience. because u can then apply wat i have gained in the workforce to complete ur assignment. i think master of finance has a greater prospect. master of economics gives me the impression that only people intend to be a lecturer will opt for..hehe..jus a small opinion.
Ok, well as of Dec-20th of this yr (assuming I pass the board exams at Wayne) I will earn my MA in Econ. I also have an MBA in Finance Dec-05. Anyway, I would suggest you do not go my route and get two degrees....ton of work/stress when working full time on top of it. I would go for the MS in Finance or MBA in Finance. Econ is ok but unless you go the Ph. D route the MA will help but not as much as MBA or MS in Finance. Also, make sure you go to a good school no U or Phoenix, Baker etc.... GARBAGE. I am 24 and am going to Wayne State U in Detroit (3rd best school in MI behind U of M and MSU) but I also had the problem of not wanting to wait a few yrs to go to U of M etc as they want post undergrad work experience.

Oh and make sure you are clear on a career because Econ is not a flexible as Finance. Finance will allow you to pick from a large pool of jobs vs. Econ. The only advantage of Econ masters is that not as many people go for econ so you may have an advantage over others with Finance (unless they went to Wharton vs. AZ State or something)..
