Looking for advice from someone in the Finance world?

I'm working for my Finance degree and I am excited about getting out into the Finance world. I really like working with investments and returns. But I have read so much negative feedback about careers in investment banking, portfolio management,,etc... that it makes me wonder is I want to pursue this. Could anyone that works in the financial area with a focus in investments tell me about their job and how you got started after finishing your degree? And why is it rewarding to you? Thanks.
