Haliburton, et al. and the Federal Deficit? Who pays? |
GDP includes profits made by US corporations operating overseas. US companies who operate factories overseas have their production figures included in GDP figures. I guess it would be possible to increase the nations GDP by off-shoring even more jobs. Anything to get the production numbers up that economists love to talk about. I suppose the CEO's and the low cost workers make all the money on this deal. But when economists talk about the federal deficit being a small percentage of GDP they're never clear about who is going to pay for the federal deficit. Would it be the multinational corporations or the foreign workers? If our SoSecurity is challenged that should be the last straw of this plundering force. I personally think that companies who outsource should pay a tax equal to the ammount of money they saved by outsourcing. This money should be applied directly to paying our national debt. Individuals always pay...even if the check comes from a corporation. In that case it comes from profit instead of being given to the owners (stockholders, pension funds, 401k, etc.) or as money to pay workers or expand the business. Nothing is free. if you are talking about the trade deficit nobody really pays for it. its a difference between the amount of goods and services we send out compared to bring in. If you are talking about the national deficit then you are talking about overall govt spending compared to revenue. as far as Hal is concerned they are still a US publicly traded company and the part that is moving over seas does very little if any work in the US since all they are is a massive oil service company and most of that is done in country by wildcatters. that being said the moving of Hal will have no effect on the trade deficit however could be good for the federal deficit. Haliburton, should be made to refund the money they stole from the American taxpayer . Can you believe they didn't have to bid for the contracts , the US Government gave them . We have outsourced our Military to Haliburton to supply food , water , uniforms and weapons for the troops . They gave our troops bad food ( they got sick ) , swamp water and not enough equipment or the right kind . Haliburton has the blood of out soldiers on their hands . And now they want to move out of our country . And the Bush Adminiatrition , is worried that the American People , won't support the troops . ( What hipocreats ) Would we have won WWII , if we had out sourced the Military ( to whom ) then ????? |
