what is a federal police officer? what is there duty and job description?

the only thing close to a federal police officer is the FBI. where you work for the federal government you work for a particular department or independent agency. the FBI and ATF are in the justice department, customs and secret service are in Homeland Security department. depending what department you are in will specify what type of duty you will do. the one's who guard the federal buildings are known as FPS or federal protective service which is under the ICE, immigration and customs enforcement, branch of the department of homeland security. to apply for a job go to www. usajobs.opm.gov. another way is to go the particular agency or department and go to usajobs site that way. will make it easier in cutting down the unwanted info on a specific job you want. is employed by the federal government usual duties include policing federal properties, such as Federal court houses, federal government agencies like Social Security Office and the Immigration office. Should a crime or offense be committed on these properties the federal police will have jurisdiction over the local police, but if they arrest someone they will usually use the local or county jail to place the offender. But if you notice most of these government agencies have security guards under contract and these are the people that will call the Federal police when a problem arises that can not be handled by the guards or if an actual crime was committed.
We don't actually have federal police officers.
We have the FBI which are called Special Agents. They work cases that cross state lines, crimes against government property and/or employees, espionage within the US, bank robberies, etc.
We also have the US Marshall's service. They work primarily with the federal court system. They have Fugitive Teams that track down parole/probation violators and escapees.
We also have the NSA, the US Secret Service, the DEA, the ATF, the ABC, and a few other agencies you seldom hear about.

Sorry to any that has already answered but there are many Federal Police Officers, that are not Agents. Dept of Defense, US Mint, US Capital, Veteran's Administration, US Postal Service, Federal Protective Service, to name a few that employ 0083 (That's a job series) Police Officers. They perform the same functions as any other Police Officer but on federal property. They derive their authority from the United States Code, sometimes UCMJ (for Dept of Defense Police Officers), and states generally give them authority to make arrests based on state laws.

there are dozens of federal police officers, the officers who patrol the US Captiol in Washington DC are Federal police officers.

The police who protect the national monuments are federal police offices.

Most FDIC locations have thier own Federal Police Officers

There are some law enforcement people for the Dept of Arig that are Federal Police Officers

of course your FBI, and your ATF officers are federal police officers
