Leaving the military for Hawaii? |
Right now, I am in the military and will be leaving the service in Aug 2007 (not retiring). During this time I have been trying to prepare myself for the challenges i will face in hawaii. Some things I have going for me is the montgomery GI bill, paid relocation, 2 year degree in Information systems management, a loving wife who is from hawaii and living there with a federal job, the determination of a champ (i think :), and hopefully about 50k saved for when **** hits the fan....I know this sounds like a lot but the military is all i've known since I was 18. I am 23 and feel a bit uneasy of the unknown, and I have never experienced life as a civilian....I think I have most of the angles covered.. What are some other things/experiences that I need to consider? please serious inquiries only... Thanks... My dad was stationed at Schofield and I loved living there. There are many issues you will need to consider. First off the cost of living is pretty high. Everything costs more and I mean EVERYTHING. There are lots of jobs but you are going to get crackin' right now on finding employers that will work. There are a several civilian companies that do lots of work with the military and hire many people such as yourself. If you check out monster, hotjobs, etc you should see some open jobs at Hickham and Pearl Harbor. That would be a good place to start. Since your wife is from Hawaii she can prepare you for the culture shock. Source(s): http://www.hotjobs.com http://www.monster.com http://www.careerbuilder.com Sounds like you got it knocked dude. Lots of time and cushion to figure it all out. Can you handle living in Hawaii will probably be the largest question i need two points -- hope you don't miss the snow |
